The Top Shelf
Rob and Craig are honored to bring to you the best that the DML can offer. As you know, your hosts are not shy when it comes to sharing their opinions. Let's just refer to this section as our very own Picks and Pans, sans the negativity.
The Top Shelf would like to first feature the finer things in life . . .
The Theatre, The Theatre . . .
Rob and Craig highly recommend the following companies. We enjoy watching a great classic, a rousing musical or gut bustin' comedy. . .
Theatre Works
Offers a year round season of muscials, comedies and dramas in Mountain View and Palo Alto. We have been subscription holders for the past two seasons - they haven't missed a beat.
Broadway West Theatre Company
This small community theatre in Fremont features excellent productions of comedy and drama.
Altarena Playhouse
We've seen some fun productions in this theater. The city of Alameda should be very proud.
Oregon Festival of American Music
Every August, The Shedd Institute of Eugene, OR, honors an American composer featuring a musical production and concert tribute.
If you happen to watch a production based on our recommendation, stop by the DML and let us know what you think.
The Dirty Martini Lounge Suggests . . .
It's no secret that your hosts have slept around - often and in so many different places. As a service to our faithful readers, the boys are recommending the following establishments for that long weekend or that special getaway.
San Francisco
Excellent Price
We first stayed at the Fitzgerald based on a recommendation from Shawn Rossiter. If you don't mind cheesey decorations from Bed Bath & Beyond's clearance shelves, you will love the price.
Boutique Elegance
This hotel is quaint and comfortable. We appreciated the detail found in the moulding and the gargoyles which grace the hallways. Close to Union Square and the major theatres, the Warwick is one of our favorites.
Pacific Grove
Fireplace amongst the Pines
Do you want to spend a romantic weekend in Monterey? Close to what the peninsula has to offer, away from the crowds? Well, the Sunset Inn is the place to be. We celebrated Craig's 57th birthday at this location. Oh yeah, Fishwives Restaurant is a couple of blocks away. So you can walk there and stumble home.
Morro Bay
A View of the Rock
We highly recommend this excellent property which we found to be the perfect combination of luxury and friendliness. Oh my goodness, the staff was very special. One person was so attentive she knew we were celebrating a special occasion - when we returned from our anniversary dinner a bottle of bubbly was waiting for us in the room. We actually thought they made a mistake. Oh yes, there is free wine from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
